Ponyo

Sometimes people say they like something only because everyone else likes something.
I realize that its cool to say you like Miyzaki films. I, actually, have not seen very much of his work, and have resisted watching his movies simply because I didn't want to jump onto the Miyazaki band wagon. It's ridiculous thinking, I know. So when "Ponyo" came out with an all star cast of actors (who probably, theselves, have never seen a Miyazaki film) I was once again turned off. So last night, finding myself with nothing to do, I watched "Ponyo".....and really liked it...I dare say I loved it. I'll admit I did not get the story too well, it was quite odd,  but the animation was beautiful. What I loved most about this film was Miyazaki's attention to insignificant things, small out of the way things that one wouldn't think should be at all important. It seriously moved along like a strange dream, focusing on something, pulling back and then focusing on something else.

So there it is, I like Miyazaki. I'm curious what you all thought of it and other Miyazaki films.

Still haven't watched Ponyo, but I must say that "Miyazaki's attention to insignificant things" is what really captivates me. Well, of course the storytelling (Ghibli is not afraid of bringing something new and bold) and animation, wich is always the best of best. Last month I watched Whisper of the Heart and fell in love again with Miyazaki's work. As much as I love Disney, I'd like to see the studio doing something beyond our expectations, something that Ghibli always brings.

Heh, I love Miyazaki and Anime in general:) However "Ponyo" is not my favorite.

I really enjoyed... I loved!!! Spirited Away, Mononoke, Laputa, Totoro, Hauru...

Those movies are like dreams, like coming back to childhood time:) I think that`s whatt Miyazaki`s movies are all about - they bring back the children in us :)

(phew... sorry for my english)

I really like My Neighbor Totoro and so does my boy. Kiki's Deliver Service is really done well with stunning art too. Worth your time to check out.

I still haven't watch Ponyo yet, but I've watched several of his film up till "Chihiro's kamikakushi", but my all time favorite is still his first one "My Neighbor Totoro" :)
story is easy to understand, entertained to watch, and very well animated

"Hotaru"(Grave of firefly?) is also good, but the story is a bit too sad
